If I put a ATA-33 HD on the same IDE channel as an ATA-66 will both drives operate at ATA-33?

From what I have seen posted. Yes it will. The ide channel will run at the speed of the slowest drive.

From: http://www.seagate.com/support/kb/disc/ultra_ata_66.html#8

Can I mix Ultra ATA/33 and Ultra ATA/66 drives on the same cable?

Yes, a legacy ATA specification drive can coexist with an Ultra ATA/66 drive, and both devices can attain their maximum performance. However, for the Ultra ATA/66 device to attain Ultra DMA 4 mode, an Ultra ATA/66 capable cable is required.

Along the same lines of topic, I have read where a CD rom drive running as a slave to a hard drive will slow down the hard drive. Does a zip drive cause the same?.

I am putting a system together that will have an ata 100 hard drive on an 80 wire ribbon cable. If I put a zip drive as a slave to the hdd, on the 80 wire ribbon cable, will it work, and will it affect the hard drives ability to read/write data?..

Thanks
