Hi all, when I run a film or something in media player, the text at the top right saying what the current file playing is, is red... and I have no sound.
I downloaded "windows media player 9 " audio codecs, but not luck... any ideas please?
Cheers, too_much (win XP home)

I meant to say, I've tried tons of other codecs and players, and still no luck :(

Okay< I'm gponna recommend you look for the right codec...whatever file it is, use this program called GSpot. It'll tell you what you need and the status..

Another simple check is to check if your speakers are muted, the volume is down or the player has the volume set to low..

hmm well its telling me after a render that there was a failure, and it just tells me what combination of filters were used.... I don't know how to resolve these errors tho :S

That one of the streams attempting to play is not supported...
I don't get why not, on my last HDD I did a fresh install of XP, no problems. this HD is the same, yet I have issues :(

Bah, still no luck. No codecs seem to work, there are no conflicts in my hardware, and more annoyingly, my microphone won't even play sound back. It's recognised in teamspeak 2 as being active, and the connections are all fnie...
I'm going mad, and reformat is NOT an option at this time, any other ideas anyone? :(

Have you tried Divx's codec?

it could be you d/l those fake video. Let me guess you d/l from Kazaa?
If you so sure that video must play something... then make sure your speaker is turn on, unmute, plug in the correct spot.

No, it was codec problems. I wouldn't download from kazaa, as it is breaking the law, and discussing such law breaking is against forum rules, which would result in a ban, so that would be crazy
anyway, turns out the reinstall DID fix it, so cheers for all your help everyone :)
