Anybody here wire up 2-120mm fans in series before? To make them 6 volt etc. and turn slower. Just wondering. Im gonna try it to see if they still push enuff air. Should be SUPER quiet as they are quiet now. But its WAY too much air. :t

Wire them to the 5V line on the molex instead of the 12V. If you want 7V, leave the wire in the 12V line connected, and move the middle one to the 5V line. Most fans get really quiet at 7V - mine do. :)

I run my 190 CFM Delta (120mm) fan for my HS at 7 volts and it's quiet.. as a slight low pitch to it, but since it is low it's eailst ignorable, not to mention I stck the comp on the side I'm deaf in.

So Gib your saying for 7v use
12v hot and 5v gnd? Yes-makes sense. You think the +1 volt over 6v I can get through series wiring will make alot more air? I will have to try both I think. I have a psu out of case here I been testing with. PSU is near 12.6v (its old) so each fan reads almost 7v across the leads with the 12 being high already. So im guessing in this one they should be 6v.
The main thing is Im trying to keep less load on the 5v rail and most on the 12v since my psu is strongest there. Hence the idea with useing 12v source. Its a duel 80mm 420 watt TTGI. Its about 2-1/2 years old, that was pretty good sized then. LOL.:)

190cfm- that thing is a leaf blower -WoW! These are just 6 watt 2000 rpm fans out of a server-very quiet. Used to cool scsi drives. problem is-the air is like intense. I mean its forceing my outpput fans like psu and and side blow hole one to speed up! Thats not good. Need to slow them down. But kinda want like a wave of cool air-just slow is all.:t
