Hi,

Well ATT cable internet went away I guess..who cares I hated them anyway, and became comcast, who I'm starting to hate too. Maybe it's all the same people and I should start full hating of comcast immediately? Anyway for the switch they had us download some little program that changed settings etc. to those used by comcast.

One of the things it did was to change my IE browser homepage to comcasts home page. So I try to change the homepage, and it gives a message saying something like 'only the computer administrator can do this'. I'm running WinXP SP1, and I only have one account on the machine, so I'm the administrator, right?

Why can't I change my homepage?

Did you remeber to update RPC as per MS's recommendation. I think, you have been attacked by some other source. But anyways, comcst may have modified your registry.

To answer one of your questions, Yes hate them now.

stix_kua is most likely right they changed mine but I never used IE unless I have too.

Oh, and another thing you could try is using Mozilla. If you check your regsitry, you could do a search for whatever your home page is set to now (the address) and modify everywhere you see that..worked for me when i couldn't change my hoe page...

Hvae you tried running spybot to see if it fixes it, or makes it so you can change it.

Go to add/remove programs in the controll panel. Do a repair of IE. This should overwrite the other home page highjack program and get you back to a MS home page.

Comcast is my ISP and I have nothing bad to say about them. Ok, just one thing lol, sometimes my connection gets really slow.

We have comcast here, no problems except occasional outages so far. Those are irritating enough though.

I didn't install comcasts software, just called em and gave em the numbers off the modem I bought and all was well. Of course, I don't use IE and have a network with a firewall too, so they can't send me any of their goodies either.:r

Unistall their software! Call them! Get the info!

Or switch to Verizon DSL...

you can use Spybot, or adaware and run a scan. From the results you will see that there are some registry settings changed in IE. I recomend that you use ad-aware, because you can back up those changes and un-do them, I don't know off the bat if Spybot does that too.

Anyways, just delete those entries and you should be fine, a truly no brainer.

Had my Comcast HSI installed last month per their ppl. So from then on IE ran with the Comcast logo and "..provided by Comcast" title bar. But I had no problems with switching my home page.

Just yesterday, I had to do a full format and Win XP re-install. Low and behold, as my accnt was already set up at Comcast, all I did was turn on IE and off it went. No Comcast software on my machine. SWEET!!! Speeds are just as good, saved some disk space, and I dont have that stupid C spinning while surfing.

So I guess either I lucked out, or once your connection is created, you can remove all comcast software and still surf. Of course you'll lose their "support" software too, but let's face it, it's useless.
