I was going to post a question asking if I should go with ram or a cpu, but then I noticed how cheap 256mb of PC2100 is. So now my question is, I have an HP Pavilion 540n with 1.6ghz P4 and 256mb PC2100. First off, will another 256mb PC2100 make a noticeable difference? Secondly, I have a Samsung M3 68L3313CT1-CB0 chip in there now. It is an unbuffered, 64bit, PC2100 with a 2.5CL without error dectection. Is there one ram in particular that would give me the best performance, or would any 2.5CL PC2100 do?
Thanks,
Richard

I can answer question number one:

YES! Install another 256MB stick and don't even think about it. It will make a big difference.

Assuming you are running WinXP or W2K, buy the RAM. If you buy it from Crucial (http://www.crucial.com/index.asp?AID=5032657&PID=96600) you'll get the right stuff, guaranteed.

So, considering that I will be filling my last ram slot, should I get a 256mb ram chip for $42 (to give me a total of 512mb) or a 512mb chip for $70 (to give me a total of 768mb)? Both chips are CL2 in case I ever upgrade the chip that came with my computer (CL2 is better than CL 2.5, right?)
