Hello,
If I remember correctly, the ram in your computer runs at the speed of the slowest installed ram. Is this correct? What's the fastest mhz ram that is supported by a P2? I'm thinking if maybe I could get more speed from an old P2 by taking out the 64mb 100mhz chip that's in there and letting the 2 128mb 133mhz (backwards compatible to 100mhz) chips do their thing.
Thanks,
Richard

it wouldn't make a difference unless that board supported 133mhz. since it's a pII, those only had up to 100mhz bus anyways. leave them all in.

I put 133mhz ram into a 100mhz fsb P3 and then over clocked the fsb to 115mhz. It all ran smoothly and the ram could easily take the over clocking because it was designed to run faster anyway.
I haven't had a P2 in many years, does anyone remember if they're at all o/c'ing friendly? I'd go for the faster ram (pc133 is nice and cheap anyway) and then try o/c'ing it lightly.

I believe the ability to overclock is locked out. A quick check shows the mobo can only get up to 100 and the processor is un-overclockable.

The CPU is definitely OCable - the motherboard isn't.

I see, in which case your picture of a guy banging his head is very fitting for this instance.

yea, slow one should drag the others down. at least thats what is happening on my pc. (DIMM1=PC100 ECC, DIMM2=PC133, DIMM3=PC133, but they all are clocked as PC100)
i dont really think a 33mhz change on the ram for a P2 is going to make such a fabulous transformation. Note "fabulous" lol
although, PC133 are definately cheaper. so, id just get the PC133 cuz they are backwards compatible. (mostly. my kingstons are)
best of luck unlocking. can u pencil trick that?:t

or podien it with CPUFSB (a piece of software that will let you overclock within windows IF you have a compatible chipset)...

I suppose if I really wanted to make this thing faster, I could get an Evergreen Technologies upgrade chip to uprade this to 1.4ghz, but then again maybe not. If it doesn't look like a standard cpu socket, does that make it slot 1 and not socket 370?

Either way they have a 1.4ghz upgrade. In fact, the 1ghz upgrade is less than $100! Then again I have a feeling the celeron isnt nearly as good as the Tualatin. What is the Tualatin anyways? I suppose I should move this to CPUS and Overclocking.

The Tualatins were the last of the P3 series with the .13 micron core. The Celeron had 256KB L2 cache and was/is quite a workhorse. OCable as heck too.
