Some or a lot of my mp3's have skips. Is that normal for mp3 or could that be something with the players. I use winamp and Win Media plyr. And can something be done about that?

I use winamp and Win Media plyr. And can something be done about that? Gomer 07-02-2001, 10:22 AM what are your system specs and how many programs do you have running in the backround? OuTpaTienT 07-02-2001, 10:33 AM No it's not normal. Are the skips always in the same spot? If so then that would mean the skip is embedded in the mp3 and there's not much you can do about it. If the skips are random and don't seem to be at any particular part of a song, then it's probably just your CPU being bogged down by other applications. Like Gomer said, give us some more info and maybe we can further help you. robin801 07-02-2001, 10:38 AM i maybe in the wrong forum, but since u were talking about mp3 i have a problem with my musicmatch player. i have downloaded musicmatch and now when i click on the icon the program starts and then locks for about a minute, and the finishes loading. what can i do to correct this problem? i have uninstalled about 4 times already and still the same thing happens. thunderbird 850 asus a7v133 nvidia geforce2mx on board sound 8x dvd phoenix modem ethernet card robin OuTpaTienT 07-02-2001, 10:55 AM Well, you could do what I do and not use MusicMatch. The author of the www.r3mix.net/ (http://www.r3mix.net/) site (a well respected mp3 info site) has this to say about MM: I've seen MM version 4, 5 and now 6 and numerous little upgrades. After a massive number of updates they still haven't managed to bring out a stable and good product. The program is even more huge than it already was ( 9.3 meg! ), and imo MM only seems interested in finding new ways of filling your registry with junk, applying new skins and adding more useless half-functioning features. It takes your windows PC hostage because if you even dare to install a third-party-player (winamp, for example) and use it as default MM will keep on nagging until you make their player default again. Besides that, I seriously distrust any program that keeps asking me for personal details and feels the need to send this over the net to some private corporation wich will decide what kind of music I like and what kind of advertising would be most appropriate for me. There is a term for this kind of program: "bloatware". MalRic 07-02-2001, 11:22 AM I have a dual boot system with WinME/2K Pro: ASUS A7V Duron 650 not OC 384 PC133 SB LIVE It seems to happening with both OS's and I don't have a lot of apps running in the background, plus don't I have enough RAM to run pretty much anything I want? PS. The skips seem to be random. [This message has been edited by MalRic (edited 07-02-2001).] Moogs 07-02-2001, 07:14 PM Hmmm. If they are random, that is hard to say. Is this problem in ALL MP3s or just a few? If it's just a few, try either ripping a song from a CD, or downloading it and see if it's still skipping... It may just be the MP3s you have... I don't know... OuTpaTienT 07-03-2001, 12:24 AM It is hard to say, but if you're sure the glitches are not embedded in the file then I'd suspect there's something running in the background that's causing CPU usage spikes. Try shutting down EVERYTHING you can. When you hit CTRL+ALT+DEL the only things you should see running are Explorer and maybe Systray, if you see anything else running then shut it down. Once down to the barebones, then run Winamp and play some of your MP3s. If they play ok then it would seem it's one of your normal background apps that's the culprit. Figure out which one it is and don't use it anymore. Also, in the Winamp options there is a setting for "Process priority class", set it to "Realtime". superraton01 07-03-2001, 05:45 PM Robin801: your not alone. i tried to d/l mm and got the error message "cannot unpack the file, the executable (.exe) file is corrupt."
