hi guys.

after a hisk failure quite a while ago, im now putting all my cd's back on my pc as mp3 files. Ive always had this problem but now im putting a lot of cd's on my hard disk it now has become a real annoyence.
I have 2 cd drives, a liteon 48x cdrw and a 16x dvd drive. When i try and extract audio from a cd it only extracts at 10-15x on the liteon, and about 5x on the dvd drive. Ive used a few programs, but now im using Easy CD-DA Extractor which gives me around 15x. I know it should be higher because my friend has a 32x cd drive extracting at 25x.

Any ideas. Im currently looking at the liteon website and easy cd-da's website but nothing come up so far.

Give CDex (http://www.cdex.n3.net/) a try - it's small and one of the fastest ones I've found. What OS are you running? If it's 2000 or XP, run ForceASPI (http://radified.com/ASPI/forceaspi.htm) to install an ASPI layer - some rippers work better with it.

I have downloaded the cdex program but when i open it i get the message failed to load the wnaspi32.dll driver.
So ive downloaded the dll files and placed it in windows system folder but i still recieve the message.

Any ideas

yeah i installed force aspi and cdex worked but that is just as slow as the others. But easy cd extractor has jumped upto 17-17x instaed of 10-15x.

Im looking at the file as i type this Krusty, thanks.

The fact that all these applications run slow points to the problem being elsewhere. Have you enabled DMA for the drives? Let me know what OS you're running if you need help checking.

My Liteon CDRW has DMA if available and Ultra DMA Mode 5.

My DVD Drive has DMA if Available and Multi word DMA Mode 2

Nero CDAE reports a speed of 26x but in real time actually timing it runs slower than east cda extractor. Also when i run neroinfo it reports i have no aspi installed.

thats funny my liteon 52xR only runs Ultra DMA Mode2 on a chipset that supports and operates at Ultra DMA Mode4 (udma5)
while my 16xR liteon and delta 44xrom operate in pio mode with dma enabled.
