castrated?

seriously, just use a soft cloth to wipe any dust and grime buildup out of the socket where the LED sensor is. If you need to, try using a soft toothbrush to gently dislodge any persistant stuff.

I think I found the problem. There was a piece of hair in from of the light. That may be why my aim has been off.

Here's my question:

WHY would you need to "clean" an optical mouse?

So you make it shiny!
You got to put a couple coats of wax every month

An easy way to keep the LED area clean is to put a piece of really clear tape over the opening. I did that on mine and it works fine. Keeps all the crumbs I have all over my desk.

If I had to clean mine, I would use the canned air I use to clean my camera http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif.

If you are using Win Me a dirty mouse may not be your problem. When I installed mine I almost took it back because it acted like a dirty set of rollers on a ball mouse. Likely problem can be fixed it you remove the software that came with the mouse and use the standard intellimouse drivers supplied with Win Me

This is how u clean it.

1) Close you eyes so u dont blind yourself
2) Flip the mouse over
3) Blow on the eye part once or twice.

Thats it. That always works for me when my aim gets thrown off.

Well, I just figured that the question was kinda interesting...I mean, do whatever you want to "clean" the thing...wipe it with your shirt, pee on it, spit on it - anything at all.

j/k of course... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

muhahahahahahahhahahhahahha! <---evil laugh because he is flooding email inbox

Well now due to you clean mouse you can easily remove them. <Snicker>
BTW - Isn't the whole point of the optical mouse so you don't have to clean the mouse. I can't see it being more economical than the o'l 1 teste wonder http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

OK hate to revive this intellectual master piece but any other steps other than wiping it with your shirt or poking a q-tip in his little beam track? Do I get to take anything apart? Huh George? Do I? Oh I am talking about the Eunuch model (such a lovely singing voice)
