Scanned a neighbor's PC with AVG antivirus rescue disk. It took overnight and still unfinished scanning drive C:\. The files are from C:\_Restore\Temp\*.* with file names such as A00785.CPY. Wats this? Is the restore folder bloated with temp files. So far no virus was detected. Is there a setting which is not correct in the system restore? Win ME. Can I delete these files? How?

Ever heard of System Restore? That's where the files for restoration are kept. You can't delete them until you disable System Restore.

I think it is unusually big. Had AVG scan several winME before and its not that slow. This PC is a P3 933mhz with a 10gig files. Or it is just normal? Also, wats the equivalent of System File Checker (win98) in ME?

Run SFC from the Start > Run box.

The files in the Restore folder are highly compressed and do take a long time to scan.

Why not schedule the scan for while you are asleep?

Yes. I run the scan before I sleep. When I wakeup after 6 hours, it is still halfway for a 10gig file. Seem it want me to sleep for two days he he. Anyway, I installed AntiVirus Personal and run it in windows. It's much faster and it's finished now. Thanks BPB:t
