I have purchased the Parts to construct a new computer for my friend. He wanted a good but affordable computer. He was going to purchase one from microcenter here in Southern California for either $1,499 or $1,899 (both P4 systems)

So I looked up some prices on pricewatch and local computer stores and this is what I finally bought. What do you think???

-Athlon 1.4Ghz (266)
-Coolermaster EP5-6I11 Heatsink
-Asus A7M266 Motherboard
-Antec SX1030 Tower.
-Western Digital 40GB ATA100 7200rpm
-Creatve 12X DVD-ROM
-SoundBlaster Live! 5.1
-Microsoft Internet Keyboard
-Logitec Optical Scroll Mouse
-Cambridge DTT2200 Speaker System
-Linksys LNE100TX NIC
-Plextor 16X 10X 40X CD-RW Drive
-Mitsumi 1.44MB Floppy Drive
-Elsa 511 GeForce2 MX 400 64MB TV OUT
-Crucial 256MB PC2100 DDR RAM

* No monitor Yet but I think he's going to go with the Viewsonic E75

I bought all of this in the span of 2 days so It might have cost me more that I had hoped for but he wanted his new computer soon so...

the total cost was around $1,585 without monitor. I bought most from newegg.com (they're great)

How much could I have built this system for If I had more time? Because I might build myself a new system soon.

I have not physically built this system yet because some of the parts still need to be shipped, but I hope that the install goes smoothly and I don't have to post in the Technical Support Forum here at SYSOPT.

Well I just wanted to share this info and see what opinions or commect you had.

thanks.

I like the price now but in a few days everything will be cheaper of course so don't fret about the price. If you play mouse intensive games you will probably want a mechanical(balled) mouse. I have died in games when the mouse curser didn't move right because I moved the mouse too fast.

What were the specs in the cheaper system he was looking at?...assuming they came with a monitor?
