The cache is the fastest ram in the computer. The system would go to the L1 first, then L2, then L3. After that, it would go to the system memory to find the data. The more high speed cache ram you have, the better.

Less access of system mem for REUSED data. Just as Midknyte said. The L rating usually signify speed too. L3 is no where near as fast as L1 for example that runs at = mhz with cpu core speed. The faster the L cache is the more $ per kb.:t
