yes. i have a motherboard that cannot be identified. i have a processor dating pack from 1998. i have ram from the unheard of ages of the PC-100 era. (that would be the equivalent of the Jurassic period.) yes and my AGP is a mere 2x. Oh yes, did i forget to mention that I cannot enter the BIOS?

Are you up to the challange? are to A+ material? Are you qualified to take on such a task? This is the project that will separate the men from the boys. Here, gentlemen, I present to you, the problem...

I have an Intel SE440BX-3 that intel does not admit to having produced. weird since CPU-Z, PCMark2002pro, Sandra, Aida, and 3DMark2003 says it is. So where did it come from? A bootlegged AMD spring?

The bios is by intel, its a A09. from march of 2000. I need it flashed because the computer is a dell. maybe that explains everything. I've read from pcworld that all big companies, that would be dell, gateway, ibm and such, disable the user's right to enter the bios to change the multiplier settings. they do this to prevent the warrenty void. anyway, thats why i need new bios. could someone find an update for this bundle of joy?

The processor is a P3 coppermine of 698MHZ. it is set at (identified by CPU-Z) 7x mult., and FSB/Bus speed is at 98MHZ. can this be o/ced? (i mean like to 800s)

I have 384 mb ram of pc-100. 1 infineon 128 ECC, 2 kingston. they are both CAS 2.0.

yes. there are the specs. can you help, can you undertake this task? Are you able to dish it out among the best? You have a day to report back.
thx lol

Well from what I can gather on the Web this is only an OEM board. Also it does seem to have two BIOS revisions P08 and P06.

The reason Intel doesn't "admit" to it is becuase it is only an OEM board for companies like Dell ect. As they do mention it is their OEM board list.

You are right in saying Dell and other lock you out of the BIOS which they do.

You want it flashed becuase you want to Overclock?
I don't think there is any normal BIOS out there for you to overclock with.

You could see if your board is in some kind of overclocking software or somthing. Give google a search for overclocking software.

The Dell OEM board will NOT let you overclock. Period!

and there is a good chance none will work with that motherboard.

It was an OEM intel board. Try pulling up specs on the SE440BX-2 as an intel board and see what drivers and bios rev. are available.

Fujitsu/seimens or a dell ?

this is a dell. i was considering downloading that se440bx-2 bios update, but wondered what consequences it might conjure. decisions decisions.
and yes JCB i remember now, its CPUfsb and CPUcool thanks better go dl
i'll post if i get success...

Try using one of my tricks. Obtain a bios chip as close to the original as possible. You will need a chip puller tool. Download the Intel bios update on a bootable floppy with the new bios bin on the floppy also. Start the PC with the original bios chip using the start-up floppy. Once at the A: prompt...CAREFULLY PULL the original chip and carefully insert the new chip (be very careful because the bios chip has a notch on one end that has to match, if you reverse it, it's toast). Run the flash program from the floppy like (awdflash.exe) and then type in the bin EXACTLY like the bios update XXXXXXXX.bin /Py. The /Py key will allow the flash program to overwrite the bios, even if it is slightly different than the original. Once completed, reboot and it should start with the new bios chip with the Intel bios rather than the proprietary Dell bios. If it fails, you still have the original bios chip intact.
Good luck:t

correct me if i am wrong here, those programs Speedfan etc work on only those motherboards which have Winbond chips on them that can monitor all the CPU temps and stuff...

If you don't have one, these programs will also not help.

billforce...and exactly where would i get a bios chip and a puller tool?

this is a little too...advanced for me lol
i ask, theres not much of a difference between 700 and 800 right?

by the way, i checked out hte o/c pages, there are like 10 people who have gone from P3E 700 to 933 using the BX-2. using a platinum orb. maybe i'll buy one. anything better? maybe thermaltake6?

the pullers can be found at radio shack. As far a BIOS chips...
That is the reason I'm following this thread. I have no clue how to do this stuff.
