Read the whole article and AMD is teaming up with Cray. It's the last paragraph - theoretically it should be the fastest supercomputer in the world. A link to a little more on it, and a lot of fluff here: http://news.com.com/2100-1001-962787.html?tag=nl Price tag: Only 90 million. Think it will run Doom 3? :) Greg Harper 07-27-2003, 12:46 AM I think it might start Doom 3:eek: lildude 07-27-2003, 01:15 AM might start Doom 3...or maybe terminator 3 or perhaps the matrix... Someone Stupid 07-27-2003, 01:58 AM Sorry for inadverdently creating a threadjacking with my doom 3 comment bigjakk. :) causticVapor 07-27-2003, 02:20 AM World's Fastest Cluster... an Opteron Cluster! :D Just what AMD needs. HyperTransport was a very, very wise move. $1500-P4 gamer 07-27-2003, 08:11 AM I posted that wayyyyy back. Its being used for nuclear strat. and weapons. Predicting fall out- hit areas targeting etc. etc.:t Yoshi 07-27-2003, 09:05 AM Only 2000, heh my computer is better then that, I don't think it has the power to run Doom 3. J/K :D :D :D Hey I wonder what it would get in the benchmarks? 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 Disk11 07-27-2003, 12:13 PM I doubt it would play Doom 3 faster than a single Opteron. Very few games take atvantage of SMP systems, much less clusters. Bigjakkstaffa 07-27-2003, 02:48 PM Oh i dunno, ID, specifically with Quake 3, are one of the few groups who have actually included SMP support and enhancments, who knows :x --Jakk:t gibsinep 07-27-2003, 05:59 PM I think someone should run Seti on that beast and put it in my name. It's always good to see AMD making money. :) ch0wdy^ 07-28-2003, 02:30 PM Yes... i shudder at the thought of AMD dying. This thing'd tear through 2,000 SETI WU's at a time eh? I say, someone sign up 1,000 of those WU's to my name, and the other 1,000 to gibs. How's that sound? ;) Someone Stupid 07-29-2003, 02:19 AM Hate to say it chowdy, but those of us who can afford faster chips from AMD yet overclock cheaper ones to get equal performance aren't helping things at all. You don't make money selling chips cheap and AMD's top of the line is crushed by Intel's of the same or near the same price so it then deters people who know from buying those chips. Granted that is only a small share of the market which knows something beyond the PR hype, but AMD can use every penny it can get it's hands on. RamonGTP 07-29-2003, 06:08 AM Like you said SS, its a VERY small percentage... If the market in any significant way reflected what goes on in this forum, AMD would have INTEL beat a long time ago. gibsinep 07-29-2003, 11:16 AM ch0wdy- I could go for that. :D SysOpt.com
