LordLocksley 06-29-2001, 02:02 PM good for playability is 30ish. I perfer to have mine up around 70 because I can do 100+. but the higher the smoother, the easier to play. smartxtai 06-29-2001, 02:05 PM so can i kill people quicker if i have better fps? or do i just kill them the same amount of time like i always do, except that everything is smoother. CptObvious 06-29-2001, 02:09 PM There has been much debate over wether or not the eye can discern anything over a certain amount of FPS...I'm no scientist or Ophthalmologist, but once I get above 40, I really have a hard time noticing a difference... Now the FPS can effect how smooth and on target your game can be...think about pulling a quick 180 in CS or UT etc etc...Now with higher FPS, the turn would be much smoother, making it easier to remain on target, lower FPS you may miss the frame the puts the reticule over your enemies head, swinging past your target...Its hard to explain, but the PC can keep up with whatever FPS you get, But not sure the human eye can smartxtai 06-29-2001, 02:15 PM so do i shoot faster or not(with higher fps)? or does my shoot rate depend on my ping? CptObvious 06-29-2001, 02:45 PM PING is the key to getting good shooting in... If you have a high ping, or LAG, you can shoot at someone, LAG enough to have them move out of the way, then get shot all at once...so LAG and ping are more of what your worried about smartxtai 06-29-2001, 02:49 PM but besides lowerng the ping to kill opponents quicker, does raising your fps work too? CptObvious 06-29-2001, 03:15 PM Its a blend of the two...online games are more dependent on PING and lack of LAG, but if you get bad FPS offline, then the LAG wont matter since the game doesnt run well to begin with... If the game has decent FPS (30+) then ping is the determining factor spidey_joe80@hotmail.com 06-29-2001, 03:43 PM CptObvious I would just like to say that I think that you explained the fps thing really well. HomeYield 06-29-2001, 04:03 PM Ping would be how fast the data from your computer gets to the server, letting it know you've fired. This would be how fast you are killing someone. Time it takes a key stroke to register. FPS, frames per second, is just how smooth you see your opponent getting shot. The process of killing someone is running its just that you can't quite see it happening smoothly if your fps is not high enough. CptObvious 06-29-2001, 04:22 PM Thanks spidey...much appreciated charmler 06-29-2001, 04:48 PM Hey, what is all this talk of killing people? If someone not familiar with gaming read this, imagine the thought process. I love some of the responses to questions here. Should put it in a book but who would read it? SysOpt.com
