This is something that I've been thinking of for quite sometime. My friend has a hobby of spinning records, mainly house, breakz, etc, and we want to get his sets recorded onto CD.
The only way that I can think of doing this, is to somehow have the audio feed directly into my computer and record it to my harddrive. But how? Are there cards out there that would support a direct audio cable link into a computer? And if so, would audio still come out of his cerwin's, or would it be like spinning deaf, where you can't hear anything?
Anyway, if you guys know how to go about doing this, please reply!!!

To record is simple - any sound card (even one built-in to the motherboard) will have a line-in port. Just run an audio cable into it (1/8" jack). Then you'll need software to record it. I'm not sure what to suggest, because I use Sound Forge but it's not free. I'm also not sure how to output his mixing in real-tile (i.e. live). Hope this is a start! :t

I actually was looking through some articles here, and then on the web on how to do it, and found it was very simple. Even with my on-board sound card, i can do this, because of my Nero Burning Software.
I figured out how to record streaming radio, ie: launch.com, and how to edit, blend, make tracks, etc for the songs with the Nero Wave Editor. Also, I found a bunch of options in the Nero Burning ROM section that will remove LP scratches, pops, etc... :)

It also depends on his outputs from his mixer. If he has a really cheap mixer he may only have three sets of line outs... two for the speakers (Left and Right), the other for the headphones. If that is the case, you can just get a splitter to use to gain an extra line out... then get a patch cable and an adaptor for one end so you can plug it into your sound card or onboard sound and everything will be like normal for him. If he has a decent to good mixer than it should have at least 4 line outs thus you don't need the splitter, only the patch cable and adaptor.
