my computer was acting up a little, and i didnt have anything important on it at all, so i decided 2 perform a fresh install of windows xp....little did i know the trouble it would give me

C drive has been formatted and the partitions have been removed, and it is showing the full size of the drive, i have no OS on the computer now obviously so i cant run the install for windows xp from within windows and it cannot be run in dos mode, however i found a copy of windows ME(to my misfortune) that my parents had that would let me run the setup from dos mode, so i decided to try to install that for the time being then upgrade to XP from ME....but when i goto install ME from dos, it says that there is no correct partition or something like that on my computer, so i set up a primary dos partition, and then it tells me that it cannot find the drive: abort, retry, fail, that kinda ****, and i can delete the primary dos partition only to have the same thing happen again and the cycle repeats, i hvae no idea where to go from here, but as of now ive got a thousand dollar pretty looking box in my room....

the windows xp cd is bootable. boot from the cd and you can create and format partitions.

make sure your bios is set to boot from cd first.

i set all 3 boot devices 2 cdrom and it says invalid system disk or something of that order, maybe its my computer itself causing the problem, i remember when i first put XP on there i had the same type of trouble so i had to install ME and then upgrade to xp......should i next try to download some partitioning software or soemthing like that?

Hmm, that sounds like a not so legal copy of XP.

actually thats what i thought someone would say, but my parents bought it from me(no idea where from) as a "going 2 college" gift since i just bought a new computer with no OS on it....that is my story and im sticking 2 it

is this the full version, or just the upgrade version?

Triton

that, and the legality of the previously mentioned product is not the subject of my question, so if you have no help to share, shut your yap

if it's not a legal cd, then you're on your own. we can get into trouble for helping you install illegal software.

Well, actually bubba, if its not a legal copy of XP, it might not boot. So I guess the legality of that version could be keeping you from doing what you wanted to do.

But, I was just trying to help, now I guess I'll shut my yap.

well in that case, is it possible to get help installing the copy of windows ME that i have?:D

Then you need to boot with the ME boot floppy, and run fdisk. Create a partition, restart with the boot floppy again. This time, run format c: and let it format the hard drive, then you should be able to install ME fine.

You know I must actually say that i respect the fact of how hard everyone tries to keep this website legit and such, i suppose that is what keeps sysopt a cut above the rest eh?

I found the worse the condition of the cd....... The dodgy-er the results................

Basically Its a gamble all ways.......... Unless its all new of course & we all know how reliable comp parts are  (Yeah Yeah) I dropped it so?

Actually smart **** it does matter. As the pirate copy on net burned wrong is not bootable. Again cant go into details. Secondly if its upgrade it wont be a bootable cd-so either answer the question or leave. We dont have time for your games. Thirdly if its a bootable cd and true blue boughten one then your cdrom or pc is duff, but again ME boots so it leads us to either its a upgrade cd-or its illegal. Your system runs boot dics or ME wouldnt-and the two both bot from no os the same, you do the math. We are NOT STUPID. If you want answers that are realistic then give answers to our questions. Sorry everyone but people like this **** me off bad.

Upgrade cd's are bootable, but you will need to incert a legitimate copy of a full previous version to continue with installation.

Is that the point? No. The point is Im not being ignorant when others are trying to help. The point is Im not trying to get help with questionable materieal on this site where it is illegal to do such things. No Ive not once talked about-nor hinted around anything about piracy here. You CANT say the same with the way your dancing around almost steight out saying you are but thats not the point! If you wouldnt have known it was wrong would be one thing-but since you did know better thats a hole differnt thing. THats my point......Later. By the way you gots a bad copy. Figure it out yourself.
