I have a 93' Corisca 4 door V6 automobile. There is a oil leak from the engine on the top side to the right when looking under the hood. Also I was told that I need a gasket change for the motor. I don't know really much about cars but I would like to indentify the parts by the correct names so that I can purchase them. By reading this and if you need more detail then please ask because I don't know. I'm trying to find out what is the problem(s) and the parts needed to repair them. If anyone knows then please let me know? And if you have a Corsica I would like to know how do you like your car and do you think it's worth keeping?:)

Get a Haynes Manual (preffered) or chilton for your car.

It sounds like the head gaskets need replacing, you really don't want to do that kind of work without a manual or someone to help you.

I prefer Haynes manuals for easy understanding, I use both because chilton will cover things Haynes doesn't (usually the smaller jobs like windows)

Just read through the Haynes manual and you'll start to get the jist. Go through this (http://www.partsamerica.com/MaintenanceTips.asp) and this (http://www.partsamerica.com/Auto101.asp) to get some bearings.

Is it pure oil or is more a "milky chocolate" in color?

And are you seeing overheating, etc.?

Is this your engine?

If so, take the image and circle or arrow where you are seeing the oil leak, and repost it. That would help me.

A head gasket will not leak oil, it's a gasket to contain either water or cylinder compression. Most likely a Cam cover gasket because there is a constant bath of oil to the camshaft. Also, be extra careful to look for an oil leak at small transducers ( the little gadgets that have a wire attached ) that have oil pressure on one side and are known to leak after a period of time.

what you need are valve gaskets and use a thin coat of RTV-type
sealant to the sealing flange on the cover and install new gasket [they are called rocket pan gaskets]

you need two

make sure all surfaces are clean

torque bolts

engine size? 2.8 V6 [1.73]

It's a V6 3.1 litre engine. If standing directly in front of car to the right side top there is a dark milky thick oil leak. When it drips to the hot engine it smokes. My next thing to do is to find out exactly what's wrong and by the parts. You all sound as though you are right. I'm gaining more knowledge everyday.

It is very very common for the oil pump drive to leak from an o ring seal. the oil pump drive is an the drivers side of the engine right by the transmission. The top of the oil pump drive can bee seen under the throttle body if you shine a light under it. it will be quite wet with oil if that is the problem. i fix them all the time for about 50$. the oil pump drive is what is left of the distributor when they went to a distributorless system and the o-ring has full pressire oil on one side and and is basically open on the other side. the o ring gets hard and cracks -viola major oil leak.

My girlfriend and I wanted to know if anyone on-line carried high performance parts for this vehicle? We decided to replace the valve cover gasket(s) (2). And order new brake pads all around front and back. She thinks that the parts used before was not of quality. If you know of where I can order (I searched) these parts then drop me a line by posting it here.:t

My girlfriend thinks that AutoZone sells below quality products. I think that the problem is that they were installed wrong. I don' t know how long or old these parts are on the car. So that's why I did the post. She thinks that there are better parts else where. I don't argue anymore I just do what I can. The Cap-n-Crunch box may just work.:t

The best way is to tell the local MAFIA boss after you spit in his face, "Look you creep, I don't care what you do to me, just don't bother my wife"!:r :r

Checker (http://www.partsamerica.com)

Go to Above link, you can look up what they have for your car. If'n or not the auto shop sells quality part's isn't really an issue, its the company who made the part that decides if it's quality or not.

Get hold of an MG or Fiat! Then, you'll know what fixing cars is about!

As for the oil leak, from written discription it sounds like the valve cover gaskets to me. You have to scrape the old one off pretty good. I used to use grease to seal the new ones. Is that still the norm?
