My cousin just paid 300 bucks for a PS2. He also bought 2 games for over 100 bucks. The graphics do not impress me. They look on par with a Nv TNT2. Because of TV's grainyness, graphics will never break 800x600x32 on a standard TV. I know it is a new system but who wants to pay $55 for Unreal Tournament for the PS2 when you can buy it for $19.99 on the PC? Besides how would you play it without a mouse?

For sure another advantage the pc has over console's is the fact that pc games are sooo much cheaper. When i used to play my 64 it was regular to buy a game for 49.99 it was a good deal to get one @ 39.99 now i dont pay over 29.99 (well 39.99 on occasion) for a game.

I think the main bit that gives consoles an edge is the two player aspect. You do not have to have two systems to play a friend, you just need two controllers. Playing friends online is GREAT, but does not compare to the feeling you get when you own them and they are sitting right next to you. Gloating online is not as fun. Also, being able to play on a TV, where the screen is typically larger. When I lived at my old place, we had a 52" TV. My 17" was fun but not as fun as the 52". http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

PC games still rule in my book and I see little need for consoles, but they still have some place on the livingroom floor.

There are also tons of games on consoles that arent on PC. Thats my resons for buying consoles. (That and my computer isnt the best for gaming.)

I'll definitly buy a PS2... once the price goes down about $250 http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif No way will I ever pay more then $150 for a gaming console (is a PC considered a gaming console?)

PC's can be great gaming consoles in my opinion! An upgradable game console that is...

I think there will always be a place for consoles in the marketplace. One thing you don't have to worry about is...X game isn't compatible with X video card. Ya just pop it in and it goes. No spending two hours configuring the game so it will run on your comp. As for that inflated price for UT PS2, you're paying for Sony's name on the case. Computers are great for gaming, but they don't come close to consoles.

They don't come close to consoles in what?

There are comprises to be made with each "system". Console you have supreme ease of use but also expensive games and lack of upgrades. When a console first comes out, it's games will look like PC games, some even better. The difference is, 6 months later PC will have surged ahead easily. 4 years later, that console will look a bit different (their graphics in games do change) but not nearly as much as a PC.

Consoles are a whole lot cheaper, too.

With a PC you have cheap games and what I said above. You also have to upgrade your parts a lot (BUT to keep up with upgrading games, consoles don't have that) and the initial system is expensive. The rewards are better looking games all the time, easy to hack into and modify games (HUGE plus), etc. For those w/o comp knowledge, it can be a pain to have a PC.

blah, blah, blah this has been discussed before.

YMK, Both is best, plus could your cousin afford a new computer? Plus I usually only rent games, I havn't bought any games in years for a console. You can't rent computer games around here so you have to buy.

Theres a service in the states and you pay something like 20 bucks a month and your renting upto 3 games at a time, you just send back the games you want to trade in and they send you the ones you ask for, shipping is included. Pretty sweet deal.

About playing UT on PS2, I've done it with a mouse, just plug in your USB mouse and keyboard. Not a problem.

It even works with my microsoft explorer.

This weekend we were playing twisted metal black and monkey island, Twisted metal online is coming out this fall.

I just like consoles for just this one reason.... FIRST PARTY TITLES!

I mean.. You have Nintendo.. their Mario titles are whacked out games so is Zelda and can't wait for Metroid in the Gamecube. With the Dreamcast, boy oh boy, you have a bunch of great games ranging from Sonic Adventures to Shenmue...!

With Sony you have First and Third Party games that will make the system almost invincible like the new Wipeout (which looks sweeet!!), Final Fantasy, etc.!

That's one feature that doesn't hold me on a console: 1st party titles.

Know why? Because I don't like them (just IMO) http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I'd much prefer a PC over console..
Just because I like playing games over a LAN, or over the internet.
