Can I use Partition Magic to adjust the existing partitions I have created using fdisk. My primary partition is 15GB and secondary is 5GB. I am quickly eating up my secondary partition with my music library and would like to increase its size without using fdisk and reformating.

Yes of course! I think that's its strongest selling point... to be able to manipulate existing partitions. The interface is very easy to use as well. You won't be disappointed with the purchase.

It's just as good (and easy) as they said. This is definitely one of those programs that I would recommend to everyone.
I wish everything I did with (to) my confuser was so easy!

Go to your local newstand and buy the June 26 issue of PC magazine-it has thier yearly Utility Guide and included on the cd that comes with it is a copy of PartitionMagic 6.0.It also has copies of DriveImage 4 and the AMIDiag suite.Lots of other utilities, too.

Someone confirm this, but I think that driveimage pro4 will also change your partition. That way you get two for one programs.

I thought I had a copy of it on a Maximum Pc utility cd but I was mistaken. Is it available for a trial download anywhere on the net. If not its off to the local magazine shop for a copy of Pc magazine.

bhess.Yes,Drive Image 4 will resize your partitions and will also allow you to edit the images you make.So far as I know these PQ utilities on the cd are full versions and I have made the floppy disk set, which is really all you need to work on your partitions.

I picked up a copy of PC Magazine and tried the demo disk. Its a demo version and will not work without purchasing the liscense. It looks like it will do exactly what I want once I purchase it. At least I have something new to read around the house.

pm and bm saved my **** a number of times - especially when playing with linux distributions that were writing/overwriting the master boot record. Make sure if you get it to create the emergency boot floppies for both programs.
I needed to use these to do a rescue after an upgrade to WinMe (PM5 did not work with WinMe - but I could rescue with the floppies) So I paid the extra for PM6 - that's one thing that ticked me off - not being able to continue with the older version.

I was just reading this thread and saw the thing about WinME not working with PM 5.0... I was working on a new Dell for a co-worker which came preloaded with ME and tried and tried... PM will reboot to apply the changes you make via DOS. Since ME has no "real" DOS, it won't do it. But I DID manage to figure a workaround that works GREAT! If you boot from a floppy, navigate your way to the Partition Magic directory (by default, in DOS was somthing like C:\Progra~1\Powerq~1\Partit~1) then search around in those sub-directories. there will be a batch file or two there with all the commands PM needs to execute. If you run these, PRESTO!, it works! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
I have "Bootdisk" installed, got it with Partition Magic. What does this program do,create a boot disk. This I can do with WIN 2K.

Partition Magic 5.0 will not work with Windows ME. You can only use it with a DOS interface running off a floppy. PM 6.0 works very well with ME, though.

I may need to clarify my earlier post...
In WinME, once you've told PM 5.0 what you want done (resizes/creates/moves/etc) and it reboots, ME will come back up and the changes will *NOT* have been made. If you boot from a floppy at this point, navigate to the install directory (see above) and execute those batch scripts PM 5.0 built, the changes will be made fine. Did this on a Dell preload without a hitch. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
