Hi everyone. I was gonna buy a video card, but my friend(BipopolarBill) said that 64MB of RAM overclocks the 128. The other one was 128. So I want some other opinions before I buy and hopefully not, waste my b-day money. Yes, my b-day is in a few days. Here is the link- http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?DEPA=&submit=Go&description=N82E16814127070
And I havent ever bought from NewEgg.com so if anyone has ordered from there before, tell me what you think!
Thanks!! Bye!!!! :t
P.S.-Here is the old video card link BTW, http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?ref=CJ&product_code=297947&pfp=SEARCH.

Ooppsss!!!!! Here is the link to my mobo- http://ecsusa.com/products/k7s5a.html
It says I have 4x AGP slot. The video card says it is a 8x AGP card. But what confuses me is that in the chipset features, it says this-
◊ AGP 8X / 4X with Fast Writes
◊ AGP 8X / 4X and AGP Texturing support
Makes it sound like it can be used by 4x too!??? The link to the video card from the site that made it is here if you need to look at it. -
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/vga/vga/pro_vga_detail.php?UID=380&MODEL=MS-8894
BTW, I have a copy of Win2000. I did not buy it. I updated from a full Win98. The video card says it won't support Win98. So would if I had to format one day, I would have to install Win98 with old video card, update to my copy of Win2000, then uninstall in VGA mode the video card, and install the GeForce4? Is that right?

Newegg is probably the best online store. Their prices are very competitive and their free shipping offered on some items gets from their store in CA to my house in Wilmington, NC in 2 days:)
MSI and Gainward cards overclock very well, so either one should be fine. Compare features and see which card suits your needs.
but my friend(BipopolarBill) said that 64MB of RAM overclocks the 128
I'm confused, could you or Bill clarify?
Those cards should work in your board. AGP 8x offers very little performance improvement over AGP 4x, so this should not be an issue.
I am really confused about your driver question. First off, using drivers for one OS and switching to another doesn't work. Second, MSI (and I'm sure Gainward, but I'm too tired to check) provides drivers for both 98 and 2k so use the one that is legally yours.

A lot of the 128MB Ti4200's were equipped with very slow RAM. So if you don't run a high resolution with lots of eye candy which would overrun the 64MB card's frame buffer the 64MB card is faster due to higher memory clocks.

Despite the 128mb cards being clocked slightly slower, i woudl still take them over the 64mb cards, simply due to the amount of texture memory many games are demanding nowadays, 64mb is starting to be filled up quickly by some games causign an overflow into system memory and thus slowdown. If course you could always overclock the 128mb cards to bring em up to speed if not faster than the 64 cards too
If you look hard enough there are a fe 128mb ti4200's out there that have thir clock settings really maxed out to some extremely fast settings which actually put em on a par with the likes of the ti4800SE, they are well worth a look if longevity is what your after

Ok, I put and like my resolutuion at 800x600. I have games like BattleField 1942 which like a good video card. I dont wanna go searching forever for a nice video card. My b-day is in a few days. I need the video card for gaming, nothing else. Forget about the formating and OS stuff, I will bring it up some other day. I need to know which is the good video card to buy! Bill is a very good techie, and he says the 64MB is better then the 128. You say some 128's were made slower, some aren't. And does 8x AGP work in my 4x? I might get the 128 now if you say I can overclock it if it is a slow one. Please, which one do you all think? All I can say is, I need a GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB or 64MB RAM(whatever you say) for heavy gaming and I am on a budget! Preferably 150 bucks or less! Thankz, I g2g somehwere for a few hours, be back later. Bye!!!

8x cards will work in 4x board yes
Based on a 150 dollar budget, although slightly over, this looks like a pretty good card to me, also has the fast 3.3ns ram which is the exact same speed as that used on the 64mb cards, so no issue of speed differences there. Also that memory will overclock to around the high 600mhz range

I will report back when I get it to tell you all what I think. Thanz everyone for telling me all this info and thanx Bigj for telling me about this great vid card. Bye!!

LOL yeah, the special offer advert newegg have on every page can be a tad confusing. Its a good card that, especially if you fancy dabbling in overclocking as with a bit of pumping it can easily be running at ti4600 level by the looks of it, shame i couldnt find owt like that in the UK when i got my ti4200 about a year back :(

I will do that, Thank you. Awwwwww man, no I can't wait until July 25!! Party may be later though because I am moving into a new 2-story house then AND going to Denver for my cousin's mom's wedding. Maby, I will talk my mom into ordering it earlier so I can play with it and I will start the ThankYou letter during the trip to Denver. From what everyone is saying, NewEgg.com is a great place. They seem to have low prices too! Anyone know though where the business is located? So I can estimate how long it'll take to get to Henderson, Nevada.
I will be proud and have honor in being able to put
GeForce4 Ti4860 128RAM
to my specs, LoL!! Thankz, Bye!!!!

Just a little curious, dont you mean TI 4200 and not TI4860?
Bigjakkstaffa
07-18-2003, 06:27 PM
No its ti4860, thats the manufacturers code for it. Its a ti4200 chip but it clocks up to ti4600 levels easy enough and the memory and GPU clocks come turbo'd up at default, hence it would be daft to call it a ti4200

Yeah, its not exactly a standard name liek is it, i reckon its to signify that the card will run at 'ti4800 and a bit' speed

i just bought a TI 4800SE on Newegg yesterday for 155. I think it would be the better choice for oobootsy1. It is based on basically the 4400 core i believe only it can be clock a little higher. And remember no matter what card you get on newegg make sure you get the free zodiac paperweight. No sh*t!!! i thought you would have to pay extra but in the end just before you actually confirm the shipping it takes the $10 off and it's free!!! Well i thought it was cool!!

Great! I live in Nevada. I am ordering a free Zodiac Paperweight Leo with it since it is free. But when I have all to cart, it says the price of it is 10.00$! I thought it takes off 10$ from your VGA Video Card or Hard Drive, not add 10$!! Confusing stuff. Mom says well order with the 3-4day shipping. No matter though, as long as I get it. BF1942 should run much smoother then. Hey, anyone know of a good program just to look at how tmy video card is doing? Like the FPS and stuff? And free!! Thanz, bye

Looks like a great tutorial. But 3dMark03 says that it wont work with GeForce2. I have DirectX9.0a installed btw. And my computer is full of **** that I do not need like left overs of things. I might put my copy of Win2k on a CD-RW so I can update to 2000 after I do a full format and reinstall Windows98 with the old video card since the one I am buying wont support Win98 and then update to my copy of Win2k, then uninstall the video card and all then install the new one I am getting. That sounds like it will work right?

1600x1200x32 = 61400000 or just under 64mb/frame and at 25 frames per second is quite an awesome amount of computing power on a gpu.
