Anyone know if WinAmp is going to incorporate the capabilities of mp3PRO into it's player.
The general consensus is that mp3PRO sounds as good and compresses better than regular MP3. The problem is that the players out there (other than the RCA player that incorporates mp3PRO) don't have the mp3PRO support.
I've done a test and found similar results.

I'm really hoping this format just dies. So far anyways, this format has not impressed me in the slightest. When it's capable of doing 192kbps or 256kbps and making them sound like 384kbps & 512kbps...then I'll be impressed. But so far it's only proven that it can sound just as crappy at 64kbps as a regular mp3 sounds at 128kbps.
BTW, are the new "pro" format files going to keep the same "mp3" extension just to confuse matters worse? Seems to me this whole thing was not very well thought out.

I haven't checked out mp3pro's yet.
I'd say maybe Winamp will make some plugin available.

hey Out, I personally think that mp3's sound just fine for pretty much everyone but the most hardcore audiophiles.
Winamp already can play mp3pro files, but they don't sound any better on it than do plain old 64kbps mp3s because while it's a compatible format, Winamp currently can't take advantage of the... new stuff (for lack of more technical knowledge).

Out:
They will support encoding greater than 64kbps as soon as people buy the technology and incorporate it into their next generation of mp3 players. Currently RCA has the only one and it is a demo that will only encode at 64kbps.
Also, I believe the PRO format will be the same mp3 extension. The files are backward and forward compatible. The difference being that a 64kbps file created in the new mp3PRO format will sound like a regular mp3 at 64kbps on an old mp3 player.
