I am running Windows 2000 on an IBM Thinkpad 570. I tried to install Service Pack 4, but failed several times, getting the error message: "An error has occurred..." I re-installed SP3 with no problem, but SP4 fails. I have more than enough room for the installation. I turned off AVG and Zonealarm. I do not know how to turn off Spybot S&D. Any ideas on why the installation of SP4 fails?
Thanks,

You have to uninstall the Immunization to disable Spybot.

Try installing in Safe Mode (F8).

which type of installation are you doing? download the network install version and use that. I've heard of more problems with the internet install.

I was using the (recommended) express installation.

Have you tried what Bill said, installing it in safe mode?

BTW, how much space do you have available on your hard drive?

what is the full error? did you check technet yet?

The error:
An error in updating your system has occurred -
Select "OK" to undo changes that have been made, or
select "Cancel" to quit. If you select cancel, your system
will be left in a partially updated state and may not work
properly, When I click "OK", the changes that have been
made are uninstalled and the system rebooted.

I have 4 gb free on my hard disk. Will try safe mode next.

Thanks, but it must be yet ANOTHER program that conflicts with SP4, since I never even heard of that Maestro, let alone install it...
NT (Nice Try).
