There is likely some simple thing I am missing but I am having a hard time to remember it.

I have several windows 2000 professional clients setup. One has a printer connected to it. I installed file and printer sharing, and then right-click on it and say share. I add -everyone- to the security tab and then go to another computer to try and add it. However when I browse to the workgroup, and then the computer with the printer, the printer doesnt show up.

However, if I type the UNC path to the computer then it asks for a username and password and then shows the printer. I can then install the printer normally. But when I reboot, the printer says access denied. Things seemed so much easier with a domain!

You need to have all of the user accounts loaded onto all of the workstations or else have only one user account that is common on all PC's.

thanks. I actually just thought of the user accounts myself. If it recognizeds the user name, does it need to have the same password?

I mean, the users will have their own machine which has their password etc. If I add a user to the machine with the printer, but don't add their password to it, will there be a display asking them to enter password? I'll try and find out. thanks.

I should only need all the users on the machine with the printer. The other machines can have the single users.

you need to have the same usernames and passwords on that print server. this is a pain, but that's how it's been done since winNT.

yes it is easier with a domain and active directory.
