I have a satellite connection coming into my computer through a receive box. The box has a usb connection into my computer. I want to install a router between my receive box and computer but thats the problem since its usb. Does anyone know if there is a usb-to-ethernet switch or some other way I could set it up.

I am pretty sure you can't do this but I thought I would ask anyway. Could I plug my satellite into the usb and just plug in the router with ethernet? Would the router work that way or not?

Thanks Dan

Why do you want to install a router???
What are the makes and models of pc , satellite etc
Need more info

There are usb to ethernet converters but they are less than satisfactory in operation.

Even though I have norton firewall installed, people still get in a screw with my computer. I want the router for both security and so my other computer can get on without mine being on.

I see that there are adapters out there, but their connection is usb A-B then to ethernet. Since my receive box has TYPE B and the connecter box has a TYPE B could I use a b-b usb cable and then plug the box into the router?

So it would go like this. Satellite receive(usb type b) to connecter(usb type b) then switch to ethernet and the ethernet cord go into my router. Does anyone know if that would work...

Is there nothing on the direcpc website as regards tech support.

Yes what you suggest will work - with a big maybe as USB can be a bit of a hit or miss as regards reliability - the connector type doesnt matter A or B!!!

Satellite isp's tend to have a clause which restricts you using nat for more than one pc remember - I suggest you checkout their site for info before you go ahead and get busted!!!

Satellite operators are also more canny as regards watching the bandwidth usage of their users.

Satellite comms can be a pain in bad weather too!!!
