Thanks for all the tips on win 2k and xp, even the comment on Dos. I can show my age by saying I was weaned on an ol' zx80 and then a commodore 64.

However, I do find that win xp is full of things id never use, guess im hangin out for xplite to see if that helps.

One thing id like to do is get rid of the log on ****. Very easy in 98, how do I do it here in xp? Im the only one on the system and I want to just turn it on.

also the start\taskbar is not as easy to use.

2k and xp may well use ram better than 9x ever did, but billy boy could have included something like xplite so we can only install the components we want.

Sigh.

Do you think XP has a lot of ****? Ever load RedHat? You ain't seen nothing yet.

These are features which the astute user can turn off. Sharpen your pencil!

XP Home or Pro? In Pro, you have to first enable the switch for ALT-CTRL-DEL logon in Local Security settings or GPEDIT.MSC. After that, Home and Pro are the same in that you can use Tweak UI for XP to auto-logon:

try this:

1) Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type control userpasswords2, and then click OK.
2) In the dialog box that appears, clear the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer check box, and then click OK.
