Hi, Rob. Welcome to SysOpt! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

The gang here is the best anywhere to get the machine out of moth balls and plastic peanuts and into the world of stable operation.

Please give us more details with which to work. Can you ID the motherboard? Maybe there is a "Use Default Settings" choice in the Setup Menu. What is the operating system? Perhaps a "Startup (floppy) Disk" is needed. ... and various other questions.

Tell us what's going on, how did you ascertain the range of HDD choices? ... and so on.

We're here, we'll try to help.

With you saying it's pre-biblical in age I will assume that "auto detect" is not an option in the HD settings. What you will have to do is pull the HD so you can see the sticker on it. There it should list the spec's of the HD. Choose the option of "USER" and type in the spec's that were listed on the sticker. (3 settings. Cyl, Heads and Sectors) Save those settings and you should be able to boot up if you have those set correctly http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Had a little problem with our pre-biblical pc when i tried to fix it myself.Managed to get the polysterene chips out of the floppy drive but when i reconnected the drives, the HD will not boot (incorrect type -Check settings) can anyone tell me which of the 47 types I have on offer in the setup screen is the right one for me. Please help as the **** thing actually belongs to my girlfriend and she is not very happy with my attempts thus far.
