my grandma has lots of time and wants a pc to get online, some word processing, etc. She won't need an elaborate pc so I was wondering which cpu, motherboards are cheap and will serve this purpose. Any suggestions?

A K6-2 450 with a P5A mobo, 64 mb of ram, $15 sound card and a $50-$100 video would be a nice cheap computer.

I got my K6-2 450 for $80 US with the mobo for $85.

HD's around 2-4GB are pretty cheap right now too.

Yeah, the k6-2/300's are less than 50 bucks new, also. You can o/c to 363, 375, or even 412. (But for grandma, I'd just go to 330 or 363mhz.) Make sure you get a new one, though...

And if you're a real nice grandson, get her a network card and cable access! She'll love you for it!

C 'ya,

Mike P.

thanks for the suggestions, I was thinking maybe a 300A celeron and overclocking that but she won't need lots of speed and I really shouldn't buy anything from those ripoff artists at intel. anyways I'm still on a dial up so I really don't think I get her cable or she'll need cable like speed.

Everyone needs cable! 300KB/sec helps build brain cells... (no, really... it does!)
