This is an issue with the onboard Lan on motherboards with the nForce2 chipset.

It is a performance drop in your Ethernet/DSL/Cable connection.

By Default the onboard lan is optimized for your CPU, not for Throughput.

To correct this, you must change it from CPU to Throughput.

To do this you must go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/System/Hardware >Network Adapters >NVIDIA NForce2 MCP Networking Adapter.

Select it's properties, then on the Advanced tab select "optimized for" and change it from CPU to Throughput.

With this fix, you will see a great performance boost.

Great Info for the Sticky :)

Also remember that your slow connectivity may also be due to your machine looking up for scheduled tasks on the remote computer. For the more advances users, please read the following sticky to speed up lan browsing.

Thanks to BiPolarBill, this is a helpful tip, and I recomend for it to be done to every machine win2k and above. I've seen a drastic change.

Both ways are a great way to speed up your lan browsing.

Howdie~

I've got the Asus A7N8X ver2. I'm using the nforce lan adapter and I've got a strange problem which doesn't want to go away with the fixes listed above.

I'm running winxp on my workstation, the linux (suse8.0) box runs samba, email and webserver. I've moved all "My Documents" to my linux share and the xp box can get into the share with no problems. Until that is, I try to get into the public_html folder.

FOr some reason, that folder takes on average 30 seconds to open. Once I'm inside, I can navigate the folders within just fine, nice and snappy response. If I navigate out, and then try to hit /homes/username/public_html it takes another 30 seconds.

The linux box can surf at top speed and connect to all the other machines in my lan no problem. The webserver is fairly fast, and I can transfer files back and forth between the two boxes at full speed, just as long as the public_html folder is not involved.

I have one xp laptop which displays the same problem as the desktop, so I don't think its related to the nforce2.
Could the permissions relating to the public_html folder slow down access to it?

This is frustrating since transferring and editing files for my webserver is ssssssllllllloooooooowwwwww.
