Hello. I know VCD is when you put a DVD on a CD-R but what is the differents in the two? If you burn a DivX to a CD-r is that a VCD? Thanks, Pack'nHeat

Not quite

VCD is in effect a competing format to dvd, came out earlier, and is pretty popular in taiwan, etc.
You can make cd's with a cd burner, with special programs, although it isn't guranteed that they will work in your dvd player(not all dvd players support vcd, even some that do, don't run cd-r vcd's.)

Divx refers to 2 VERY different things.
The first is the divx format dvd's that could only be watched a few times. They have since gone the way of the Dodo, beta video, and 8 tracks.

The other Divx is actually a cracked version of MPEG4(I'm pretty sure) People use this compression to compress DVD's down to a size to fit on 1 or 2 cd's. BUT, it only plays on computers with a dvd player(software not drive) with a divx codec installed(and most times mp3 codecs too)
go here... www.divxdigest.com (http://www.divxdigest.com) for more info on this type of divx.
good luck, dragonB

Divx is an encoding method that is different than an mpeg that you can burn as a VCD..you have to convert the divx to mpeg..I use Tmpg
to do that..I put the link Here (http://www.tmpgenc.com/e_main.html) ..and no if you burn a Divx..it is not a VCD..you Can burn them as a data file, and play them from you comp..but to run in a standalone DVD player..you have to convert first..then burn as VCD..I recommend Nero 5 for that.
