I recently installed the HP 4200n laserjet printer on our network. I have it setup with it's own IP and hooked directly to the network via a Cat5e drop over a WinNT & Win2000 Network using TCP/IP.

The problem is that any time someone sends a print job to the printer, a Windows Print Pop-up Window appears which requires the user to click OK to get rid of the pop-up window. This is quite frustrating for the department that uses the printer. I have the printer software loaded direclty on the PDC running WinNT (I know .... I know .... but, this is a non-profit and if it ain't broke don't spend ANY money!!) And, each PC in the department that uses the printer has the software installed as well.

I've browsed and searched HP's website for help, but there isn't anything specific to this particular issue. I know it has to be very simple, but after uninstalling and re-installing the Printer Software using all the possible configurations, I'm at a loss.

Thanks much.:)

too much broacast, that's the problem

remove the software from all the computers, except maybe the one you use

then install ONLY the printer driver, in TCP/IP mode, by Using LOCAL ports, instead of Networking printing, when you add the printer

done

Better strill use HP's network printing wizard installer - does everything including downloading the correct drivers , tcip setup , no windows etc.

You should be able to get rid of the window - its a server / printer issue.

The pc's shoudl downlaod the printer driver from the pdc - is the printer setup as a print server on the pdc? - thats the way it should be done - eliminates the windows!!!
