(first many thanks for bearing my eglish)
I build a basic system...
mid. Tower 300w
ecs k7s6a mobo.
Amd duron 1300
256mb ddr pc2100
cooler (cool king)amd/athlon
floppy disk
(for the moment a pci graphic card)
First problem i encounterd was the cables, it was not really clear so i limited it to the power-switch and speaker kabel.
Secondly i switcht it on, but stupid enough i forgot the monitor cable. It did found the floppy drive. So i tried to switch it off. I did not at that time know that you should press the button 5 seconds. but after a wile it switcht off anyway. When i felt the cooler it must have been over 60c. so i let it cool off.
Later on i tried it again. Just the cooler fans where working.
and the onboard memory led. So guess i just blew up the processor or something. I'f been asking around. What i heard was it could have been the pci graphic card that could have coused an fatal error.
I'm still pusseld. question could the motherboard be damaged too?
I just left the multiplier on automatic.
Can someone please assist? I don't like to just try again!
Thought i done everything carefull enough.
Many thanks!

With a name like pikachu, I think you shocked the ***** out of it...
But seriously, what make is your PSU...that motherbaord is picky about RAM, Powersupply and anything it can be picky about...

hey Pikachu, did you peel off the plastic covering on the thermal compound? (should be white or blue, looks like gum, lol, no really, it does) most people forget to do so and they fry' their cpu in a couple of secs. usually about one or two seconds.

I did not found much on the powersupply. its from JNC.
I'ff been looking at spectec but my board does not list under their approved motherboards for that type of memory.
but its all standard, it can't be that picky could it?
no beeps, tried clearing cmos and yes did peel off plastic i'm not crazy!

The K7S5A is choosy about both RAM and power.
SpecTec is owned by Micron. It's not great RAM, but it's good. I suspect a wimpy power supply.
Remove the board from the case, place it on a soft, non-conductive surface near the case and plug in the ATX power. Place the vid card in and connect the monitor. Connect the power. Nothing else needs to be connected. Press down hard on the vid card and use your screwdriver to short the POWER BUTTON pins. See if it POSTs. If it does, replace it gently. If not, we have a problem.

first thanks for all input so far.
i'ff been testing out side the case with a new processor and memory.
this time i used a agp card. i'ff been searching this card on the internet but came up with nothing.
That should give u a thought:( .
specs: image world - Twister DVD2 a 8mb dvd combo 2D/3D VGA, AUDIO, DVD/MPEG2 playback.
PCI bus 2.1/AGP 1.0 compliance
Last time i used my P166mhz old PCI card, because i read the agp card would not be compatible with the AGP2.0/4.X
After i read some at intel about AGP, i believed that it should be compatible.
So nervous i pushed the button. looked at the screen, and looked.
please tell me why... It's so frustrating when your being sukker looking at a screen, and it stais black.
So i puched the button for 5sec. and luckly it went off.
Next thing i tried was mounting a diskdrive.
and puched the button again. The screen continued black.
But guess what PIKAAA it found the floppydrive.
Is that a good sign?
I don't like to try the PCI card again, cause it might have been cause off the problem. ALTHOUGH.
I noticed something that is verry upsetting building it out of the case!. now i know why the cooler had an open space. because off the sockets higher edge. It seemed to fit so perfectly last time, but i might have misplaced it.

Either the CPU is toast or the motherboard is defective. I lean towards the CPU.

...and that assures you of nothing when a motherbord has no thermal protection. A brand new Athlon will fry in 5 seconds on a motherboard without it.
