I'm running Windows 98 and have Quicktime operating but I do not have a picture viewer. The Quicktime viewer will not work. What can I do to repair or replace?

Irfanview is a great choice or I even like to use Megaview. There are many viewer around you will just have to see which one's you like best.

ACDSee is the absolute best viewer. thumbsplus is second. They got powerful tools like picture format conversion, editing tools, mass file renaming tools, etc.

I know I'm in the minority but I like Compupic (http://www.photodex.com/) over ACDSee or Thumbsplus.

The mentioned viewers are all great. The are the main three I use as well.

For just viewing images quickly and very suitable to be the viewing application associated with all graphic types, you can't go wrong with either ACDSee or Irfanview. Note: ACDSee has nags and will constantly remind you that it's shareware...Irfanview is free.

However, for keeping track of hundreds or thousands of picture you just can't beat ThumbsPlus. It'll allow you organize all those pics and sort them in any way you see fit. Some of the priceless things ThumbsPlus can do include:

-sort by similarity - makes it easy to find duplicates or near duplicates.

-view synched - views two or more images for a side-by-side comparison. Locks viewing functions, so when you zoom or scroll in one window the comparison windows do the same.

-batch process - will perform whatever photo editing routines you tell it repeatedly on many files. Example, if you had 300 images that you wanted to alter the same way...like if you wanted to make them all grayscale and shrink them to 120x100 and put a border around them, no problem. Instruct Thumbs on how to do the first one and it'll do the other 299 for ya.

-lots of other fun stuff. Highly recommended.

Why that's an easy one. This is the best free program out there.

I have a question on some of the viewers above. Do any of them reduce dpi count? What I'm looking for is reducing images for websites. Irfanview will reduce the pixels to 800 x 600 etc but it won't reduce it further.
Any non-free programs that do that?

ThumbsPlus let's you change the resolution by one of these 3 units of measure:

·Dots per inch (dpi)
·Dots per centimetre (dpc)
·Pels per meter (ppm)

Plus, if desired you can change the horizontal & vertical units independant of each other.

I've been a firm believer in and user of ACDSee for around 4 years and it can't be beat! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif I tried Irfanview, but didn't like it as well and I did buy ACDSee.
