tried that I can save it or open it and they come up blank either way. It's only happening in outlook 11 or 2003 which ever you want to call it.

Try the detect and repair in help menu or reinstall outlook.

Is this with one particular message from one sender or all of them?

Might check for the office updates as well such as a service pak.

I can forward the email to another computer running outlook 10 or any other mail client and I can read the attachment. It's all senders. But there is one thing in common. The Attachments original orgin is from an AOL client. Some of the other attachements that I have received from non AOL orgins will open up.

Detect and repair ran an no change.

This is for Outlook 2002. It's probably the same for 2003.

"Outlook Virus Enhancements: Outlook now helps you and organizations safeguard against malicious viruses by blocking e-mail attachments that are associated with unsafe files. Outlook also prevents programs from gaining programmatic access to your address book or from send e-mail messages on the your behalf. You are notified and given the option of continuing or halting the action. This prevents propagation and the spreading or e-mail viruses to others. Additionally, Outlook gives administrators options to customize these settings to meet organizational needs."

OL2002: Cannot Access Attachments (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q290/4/97.ASP)

Go to the "How to Customize Attachment Security Behavior" section.

Good point...Steve R. I'm using 2003 Beta, and Outlook is very very nice...
I can read and view attachments fine.
there is a tool out there, free download, that will allow you to specify which type of attachments you can view (by file type extension, i.e. .doc, .exe, etc.)
MS has level 1 and level 2 attachment security.

I forgot which is which...but, one you can choose to view by unselecting security, the other...you're stuck.

But...as I recall...there is a registry edit out there to allow attachments to be viewed....let me see if I can find it in the file cabinet upstairs...

uh..yeah, ok.
I guess I should've opened your link first, Steve.

Thanks...

That's not going to work...that's not the problem. If it were you wouldn't be able to "save" or attempt to open the attachment...as it would be gone

Also, if that feature was the cause of the problem you wouldn't be able to sucessfully forward it.

Good Point, MCP2. I overlooked the forwarding issue. I thought it was unviewable all together.

Next question...

There are a few ways to install it. Did you just install it over your current version of office?
If so, try uninstalling both, then...reinstall Beta.

Outlook is funny, in the fact that it is the only part of the Beta that will not allow you to leave the original outlook install intact, once you install it...you only have Beta Outlook. All other components will allow you to keep and run your original office install...and use the Beta separtely...

Try a full uninstall...then install beta only. After 11/30, you can always reinstall your original office.

Also, there is an update for the beta, but you won't find it on the standard office update site.
If you open Outlook, under Help...there is a check for updates option that will take you directly to the "beta" update site...

Give it a shot...

Seems that AOL is the only attachments I can't open. Which is fine. Guess AOL and MS really aren't getting along. There are alot of differences in 11 than 10 on file blocking. And there aren't any easy menu to follow to a box to uncheck for blocking those files.
