Two reasons for this:
1. You can't build a laptop yourself. You must buy it.
2. They are still too expensive in comparison with desktops.

There some nifty deals on notebooks nowadays.
I want to get my wife one....maybe in 6 monthes....no make that 8.
I still think that desktops are better. I love my notebook sure but it just does not have the expandablity of a desktop.

I like desktops better than laptops, but i don't hate them. i think that they are very help-full, i could sure use one my self. But the desktop is still more powerful than any laptop. some say that laptops are getting close to desktops, but they have not seen rare gaming computers or large data-base servers, they have only seen the "on the market" PCs like Dell and HP. I have a friend that got a laptop, and he stoped using his desktop. i think that if i was to get a laptop, i would use it for "on the go", but not at home where i could use my desktop. oh-well, to all his own... --_--

Actually, you'd be surprised what you'd use a laptop for. Ever play Madden on any console? My cousin threw together a small program and entered the data to track all incoming rookies over a period of five years to determine which were the best developers; seeing as how he has a huge tv, he could probably see the stats from his PC, but it's much easier with his laptop. I use it when playing final fantasy 9 because the strategy guide I have is worthless because it always references you to playonline.com. Plus, I spend all day at a computer since I run a web store; without a laptop, I'd be confined to my computer desk rather than being able to lounge wherever I want. You start to get inventive when you have a laptop simply because you can. Besides, there's a number of upgradeable parts in most laptops such as ram, hard drive, media drives, and in the near future the video processor.

Fact is a Desktop will always be cheaper, easier to upgrade, and all the latest hardware will come to a desktop before a laptop

Another fact - a Desktop will also depreciate faster than a laptop...

Ah but you can find "desknote 's" over at www.pricewatch.com they are the hybred version of a notebook sans battery using desktop components and they are custom buildable ,,though they still cost more than standard desktops and less than most high end laptops

I love my laptop. I can sit anywhere i want while surfing. When i need to get additional parts, i just plug them into the USB ports, or if i need to, ill install them in my crappy desktop, then access it over my wireless network.

hello all, :t
laptops are trully handy when your into business, especially when you need your store prices concealed to you only, but then again the matter of fact that it is once again unaffordable!!!!
i would like to have one!!! but can't! still no budget, so now am using my desktop, very trusty, ... and to think we mostly cant afford laptops but we can definitely afford upgrades on our desktops, how bizzare...
oh well, time to start saving...
I wanna get a cheepo one... my needs for a computer on holiday are increasing... and i cant take my whole PC (stoopid luggage peeple will smash it up!)
I sometimes need it in jobs and stuff :D
None of my relatives / friends have a compooter... (well - one that i am allowed to install stuff on  )

Laptops are cool in their own little arena.
But try upgrading one and watch the money vanish very fast as everything is 3 times the price of a desktop.
No good for power gamers. try bunging a GF4 into a laptop. :D

I thought I'd only use my laptop on the road, been building desktops since DOS 3.1. I have 5 destops that are all but abandoned, as is my office. This 1.7GHz P4 laptop rocks, I have a second (touchscreen) display for it, 512MB ram that I think I'll upgrade, a usb soundcard for pro audio work, and a WD1200JB on firewire. I seldom use a desktop anymore. And I always have my computer with me.

As always, defending Macs from ignoramuses.
My uncle thinks he knows LOADS about computers....
I just said i want a 500MHz laptop, and he said, 'Hmmmmm.... £699 about it would cost'
He also said he was gonna upgrade his old celeron 266 with dual opertrons!
I told him he cant and he said the salesman said his PC was infinitly upgradable, and hed never need a new mobo. HE HAS A MINI TOWER TOO!
:D :t
