hi,

recently there was a problem with the internet so i uninstalled the modem driver and reinstalled it At around the same time i installed Zone Alarm with web filtering.

since then i havent been able to open any pages from the web. I can connect to my ISP through dialup. It says i am connected, it shows me how much time i heve used the connection (program i use to connect to my ISP) but what ever page i try to open my browser returns "Cant find page"...

i ran "NetMon" ... a program to show my connections (attached image) .. i see alot of netbios ports listening... but my ISP doesnt require netbios.... and when i try to open a page i just see "Sync Sent" in netmon ... and then the browser returns "Cant find page" .....

i did a "soft install" of win98... reinstalled modem and adapters ... removed all services and reinstalled (added) .. but i always see the netbios in netmon.

i thougt i could be from Zone Alarm so i uninstalled it and no change ... i reinstalled it last night .. it detects my ISP connection and detects IExplorer .. the settings in zone alarm all look right and still same thing.

does anyone have any ideas ?? any ideas are welcome

thanks

When you get the cannot display page in I.E., go into Tools/Internet Options and make sure your settings are correct: Enable Java in Advanced tab and check the Security tab/Internet is set up correctly. Also might check the Connections/Configure box.
Sorry I can't be more specific about IE settings. Also, are you sure ZA settings are right? Try uninstalling ZA again, but make sure it is completely removed from registry using regedit or a reg hack. Good luck.

my recomendation

go and Edit Network Properties

absolutely delete everything in there

restart your PC

then back in Win98 install only the
- Dial Up Networking
- TCP/IP

and reboot again

now you should have no trouble getting to the internet

Unless the ISP is having a DNS server problem!

Had exactly the same problem - Its Zonealarm.
Uninstall it and then reinstall it fully.

Sometimes uninstalling it wont work either - make sure it is disabled before you uninstall - no services running - use task manager!!!

check this for the real uninstall of zonealarm!!!
