I have a pioneer 120 dvd, and sometimes when im copying from some ol'cds of mine i get the msg"invalid ms-dos function" and the copy terminates...it gets on my nerves!
i know that 120 is no **** and pionner drives can read almost everything,so could the drive be faulty?
id really appreciate some fast advice.

What OS are you using? Are those VCDs you're trying to copy?

what could be wrong?

I'd check the CD you're copying from for scratches, it sounds like a read error...

Yeah that ERROR is not a problem with the DVD hardware

it's mostlikely a bad CD that you have

try using some CD Wax

Or DiscDoctor.....it adds scratches to remove scratches....how ironic....

DiscDoctor scratches off the scratched layers and puts in new grooves....

Definatley don't blame your drive...it is a read error because of dirt grime scratches, aliens and monkeys playing around on the surface of the cd.

i think it has somethin to do with the OS...i say this b'caz i have many cd's(even brand new shareware one's) that won't copy properly in 2K/XP but works perfect in 98.

Also one can try takin an image of the CD.( that usually never pops up the message)

invalid msdos function doesn't necessarily mean the cd has scratches...thats why takin an image of the cd works most of the time.

98 just doesn't report it...

I've had the same problems with bad cds especially old cds like he posted earlier.....it definately isn't the OSes fault for reporting a problem...that' is actaully good...

Hi,
The ms dos invalid function error is not cause due to a hardware or os problem but scratches or badly written VCDs

I wrote a program that will copy such VCDs overcoming the limitation of the ms dos invalid function, to your hardisk.
It copies the movie for you without terminating when it encounters an error.
Infact, i wrote this program cause i had to pay a late fine to the VCD rental guy because I couldnt copy the **** movie to my hardisk.

its a free program and if you wish I will send it to you. if it really helps calm your nerves(which i guarantee it will), then maybe you could send me a dollar. :) Maybe i can cover up the cost for the late fee i gave the rental jerk. :)

send me an email, with MS Dos Invalid function as a part of the subject line and I will send you the program.

regards
elvis.
