I can't shut down my computer; it will say it is safe to shutdown your computer then restart. I have formatted my hard drive re-installed windows (ME)get the same result.
Also when my monitor turns off after a period of inactivity, it will not come back on by moving the mouse, I have to push ctrl alt del twice and restart the computer. I have reset my power settings and checked everything I can think of in the bios; to no avail. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

More info about your setup would be helpful.

On the power mgmt, disable completely, both BIOS and OS.

The restart issue, check MS for a patch. If nothing there, try the mobo vendor, it may be a known issue.

Hope this helps,
Tim

My system consists of a PII 350 , a PC Chips mobo, 192 mb pc 100 ram, 20 gb 7200 rpm @66 hd, 8.4 gb 5400 @33,asus v6600 geforce 256, soundblaster live value. I have all the latest drivers installed. The shutdown problem started about 2 months ago and the other problem about a week ago. No info on shutdown problems appear to be available at motherboard site.
I disabled all power options but since I don't shut down my pc will I need to shut off my monitor when finished? My kids just walk away from the computer when they're done.
Also I am considering upgrading soon; adding an Athlon 1.2 ghz @133/266,256mb 2100 ddr,Asus a7a266 mobo,Enlight midtower 300 wps.Does this sound decent to you?
