Hi, need help choosing a good, not overpriced DVD drive. Any comments welcome. Should be at least 8X.
PS. How good are DVD-ROM drives at reading CD-RW and -R disks?

I would suggest sticking with either Pioneer or Toshiba. Both are great drives and red all disks well.
Here is some pricing. These are bare drives. I buy from these guys fairly often...

Ditto rh71 - I was recommended to a Pioneer 106 slot from Sysopt members. It's awesome, never fails and the slot load is just plain cool http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Hey vtruty, I noticed you're in California. If you want to save some money on cost and state sales tax, RunTime Computer (http://www.runtimecc.com/index.rcc?SessionID=127936&view_category=8) has the Pioneer 106S for $64 plus shipping. Shipping is $9.45 UPS ground.
Just a thought...

If it helps to push you over the fence, I recommend the Pioneer 106s (slot). It's read everything from CDRW to CDR (including VCDs and SVCDs) perfectly fine. Bought it bare as a bone (OEM) and no problems still.
