I decided to do my monthly ghost backup today...started the Ghost progran as usual.....computer went to reboot......(Peparing system to reboot), notice it was taking a lot longer than usual. Finally when it did it said no operating system found:eek:  tried rebooting again, no avail. Tried to repair Windows 2000 Pro, repair said no system to repair.:r  Is there a new virus I did not know about? Finally had to reinstall an old Ghost backup.

Is there a way you can either put the drive in another system using the NTFS file system so you can see whats on it ? Or you could also try setting the PC to boot from CD and use and use a live CD version of Knoppix, or Suse, or Yoper. Those will let you mount that drive and see if your info is still salvagable. I've even repaired situations like that with a live eval. Linux CD.

You know, not that it matters now, but I've had that happen before, and I've taken the drive out and put it in another machine and ran a chkdsk, and it fixed it for me.

I had the problem running GHOST before when the power went out just as I started disk mirroring, came back and there wasn't an OS to be found, something about the MBR or something getting screwgied.

I just reinstalled, didn't really care much about the data so didn't really check all options to see if it was GHOST or not, but it would seem to suggest something like that, who knows

What i found odd, is how can it be possible for the Original Disk to get damaged if it was only Reading?

or are you guys talking about the 2nd copy?

Really no minor details, Started Ghost> Chose disk to image> Image was (CDR)> Chose No Compression>Clicked Next>(Computer will reboot)>(Preparing system for shut down)> Took Longer than usual> finally rebooted > "No Operating System Found"

had that happen without using ghost, suspected the user had a virus, but everything just vanished. I too had to reinstall everything and its been working fine since. http://www.fancysplace.com/smileys/madred.gif
