If you have a day or two read the specs on Win2000 SP4 and be amazed at the issues with compatibility and previous update hotfixes. Let alone it states that the service pack failed to include some issues found towards the end of testing so that they will be addressed in later service packs, (when it doesn't state).
After looking at some of it I'm now not sure whether to install it or not.
With the admission of futher work needed to make the pack error free why didn't they just wait to issue it.:r

That's why I never deploy a service pack right away. I usually give it a month so that the guinea pigs can find all the bugs.

You always know the pioneers, because they're the ones with arrows in their backs. ;)

Arrowed Pioneering Guinea Pig right here :r :r :r

I fresh-installed Win2k and the first thing I added was SP4. My PC has never felt cleaner or run better. And of course, there's always the option to uninstall.

Thanks for taking an arrow for me.

Installing the latest and greatest is ok for 1 or 2 personal systems, but when you got dozens of business computers you tend to be more cautious. deploying SPs take long enough. I don't want to have to uninstall it too.

I think I'll still wait a bit but glad it's running good for you sm8000.
Mine is running smooth right now so until then as I've always said , if it ain't broke don't fix it.:r

One guinea pig here, too. Installed it on a clean W2K build, after a blow up of an old NT 4.0 install.
No problems to date, PC running Oracle, Office 2K, Reflections (Unix terminal Emulation)...

Good to go...so far!!...make that one more arrow for ya.

I rolled SP4 out to all our network clients over the last couple of days after some testing. All is well. I'm waiting a bit longer to roll it to 2k servers, but they're always a bit more important obviously. My advise is to roll out SP4 straight away, especially if you havn't been keeping on top of the hotfixes, run hfnetchk before and after and you'll see what I mean.

I installed SP4 to all of our servers, and a lot of our clients servers too. So far, no glitches, everything is running smooth.

Glad to hear it. The more positives I hear, the better my boss will feel. We're on the "cautious" side. I can't take the chance that our mission critical systems will go down. I like my job, but I like being able to eat more (aka not getting fired).

The active directory deployment works just fine in my test lab, though.

Keep us updated, you Arrowed Pioneering Guinea Pigs. LOL! :D

I think I'm going to wait another week to deply to the servers, me being cautios also. The workstations are less of an issue obviously.

Looks like he did the express...I never trust those...too much can go wrong while downloading and installing.

I've put 6 more machines on SP4 in the last few days...No problems, but all have been done from the Network Download..

I agree, try to persuade a friend with a broadband connection to download the network install, no troubles for me.

I guess I'll go that way in another week or two but just as I thought there are going to be some casualties with this thing. Just to many ifs in the notices from windows themselves.
