My father has an old 512mb hard drive & a WD 30gig hard drive. He is wanting to know if you can load windows 3.1 & windows 98 on it. If so then how do you make it so that only one of them will boot up? He has an old dos game that he loves called megaracer that he can't get to play in win98 so he wants to install 3.1 hoping he'll be able to play his game.
TIA
MIke
You can select the drive to boot from by changing the boot sequence in the BIOS...
For example, it the 30GB hard disk is connected to the Primary IDE channel as Master, that drive would be "C" in the BIOS. And if you connect the 512MB drive as Primary Slave, Secondary Master, or Secondary Slave, it will be drive "D" in the BIOS. Just select the first letter in the boot sequence to C if you want to boot the 30GB drive and if you want to boot from the 512MB drive, select the first letter in the boot sequence to be D...
NOTE - Drive lettering in the BIOS and what you see in Windows drive mapping is different.
The above option was without the need to spend any money...
Another option would be to buy a boot manager program such as System Commander which allows you to have boot options using different hard disks or different partitions...
