THIS IS REALLY A MIRACLE.
I HAD MY DURON 750 RUNNING FOR 10 HOURS =====WITHOUT A FAN=====
yes

I am SOOO relieved that it still works. This happened by mistake. Yesterday i had to free one of the power points in my system (the 4pin connectors) to hook up a drive i wanted to test. Since i was too lazy to go get a Y adapter from the next room, i unplugged a connector that went to a Y adpter, one end of which went into the front case fan and the other end to some "other" fan. I was kinda sleepy, so i dint pay attention to where it went. After i tested the drive, i decided that i should goto sleep and loaded up Direct Connect and went to sleep (at 5AM!!). I woke up after 3PM and found that Direct Connect is still uploading/downloading stuff. I switched on the monitor and closed the transfers and decided to reboot the system... (that proggy is a bit buggy). After windows shutdown, (during restart) i changed my mind and shutdown the computer, planning to remove yesterdays drive and plug the fans back in.
THAT"S when i noticed what the second disconnected fan is...... it's the Delta fan on my Swiftech MC-370 (that's my cpu heatsink/fan)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I touched the heatsink and burnt my fingers!!! I hooked up the delta to run at full speed (12v instead of the 7v i used to run it at) and switched on the system praying to the Almighty.... (i just bought this cpu two weeks ago!!!) It booted ok and i went into the bios to check the temperature
Belive it or not...... 135'Celcius ... yes Celcius

It cooled down within aout 45 seconds... showing the power of my Delta screemer.

Anyways... i havent noticed anything wrong so far..... everything is now back to normal...

And i thought AMD meant it when they said these things burn out without cooling

You could have cooked dinner on that thing.

Write AMD a testimonial, maybe you could get a free t-shirt. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Yea, maybe you'll get a free t-shirt..lol

This sounds like a mistake i'd do with my computer if my dad wasn't watching over my shoulder. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Lucky escape.

When I first got my Duron & was messing around tweaking it up to 1Ghz the whole heatsink & fan fell off, fortunately MB monitor shut my machine down when it had only hit 80 degrees C http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

i've got a question--stupid, but I mean it:

If you use a Delta fan, how on EARTH did you unplug it--and NOT NOTICE? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Wow! Ok this might be coming at the wrong time (you still recorvering from it and all). But amagine how fast you can OC that thing! We're talkin about the Godzilla of CPU's!!! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif You'll be able to crack the RC5 thingy by yourself, and still have time to play a good game of Quake3 before bed! Wowie! Zabamg!

Any way! Really awesome!

You're definitely VERY lucky, vintron! AMD lists the max die temp at 90C, but I would consider 60C to be too much already.

With such a luck, can you guess lottery results ? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
Apparently, 60C is not too much, sometimes when I have my 1 GHz T-Bird @ 1.28 GHz (most stable) I reach temps of 65C at full load, when working for 24/7 (encoding DiVX)

Man, now you're making me wonder if connected the fan when I left my uncle at his house with his newly built computer. I used a duron 800, but im going over there tomorrow, I'm pretty sure (95%) that I plugged the fan into the motherboard. But this story is making me wonder because while I was testin to see if the system would boot I forgot to plug in the fan for about 15min. and I restarted and it worked fine.

Well looks like Im going to have to take me screw driver to his house tomorrow and check.

That's awsome though 135 C.

WOW.
