You can use CDR-W disks just like a Zip drive.

Windows version? Just use MS Backup and set the drive as the destination. Schedule the backup.
You can also make a batch file and use Task Scheduler to run it.
Set your folder/directory that you want to back up and put the batch file there. Open Notepad:
COPY *.* X:\ /Y (where X is your CDR drive)
MS Backup is much better.

Bryan, you have what you need there. After you make that file, save it as backup.bat and put it in the folder you're backing up. If there is more than one folder, you have to use MICROSOFT BACKUP. Clear?
Now - which Windows version are you using?

First you have to check to see if Backup is installed. It should be in Programs > Accessories > System Tools. If it's not, you have to install it from the CD. Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Windows Setup. Put a check in System Tools and click OK. Now you will have it.
I can't recall if Backup can or can't be scheduled in Win98. I suspect not. If it can't, you'll have to pay for a backup program.
Upgrading to Win2K/XP will get you a backup that can be scheduled.

Here's how to use Nero to backup:

I doubt that you can do it unattended though.

win98 backup doesn't support cdrw drives anyways.
are you running win98 as a server? are you just backing up to a win98 workstation?

I have a client set up with a simple batch file and XCOPY to CDRW and it hasn't failed in 2 years.

*ahem*
you will need InCD or a similar software to do that.
Then it will treat the cd-rw as a small hard drive.

Why don't you just use MSBackup to back up to a file regularly and burn the file to CD manually? MSBackup compresses the file when it creates it. If you give me the "path" (location) that you're placing the backup file in, I can create a batch file for you to use to copy it to CDRW on a schedule.
Do that please.
