I'd like to buy a laptop but have multiple dilemmas!
I have considered the Sony Vaio PCG-Z600HEK but that costs £1,900+vat. The
ultra-portable format really appeals but am I paying way too much for new
technology?
Then I saw a positive review in Computer Buyer about the new Dell L400.
Now I'm looking at a mailshot from Dell offering an Inspiron 2500 700GT
for £799+vat.
Should I go for the low cost Dell and then upgrade when ultra-portables
plummet in price? Oh decisions decisions. Will my arm drop off lugging the
Dell around?
Help me!
Jon
What are you looking for in a laptop? Most of these things are designed and manufactured in Taiwan. Some of the less expensive ones will have a larger screen!

I would suggest anything Toshiba, I have owned three in my life, including the one I am typing on now and they are great. Very durable, I dropped mine off the side of the desk a couple times and not so much as a scratch, well made with good parts, and not as expensive as the Dell's and Sony's of the world. Also, they don't load all kinds of **** software on the machine to slow it down like HP and Compaq do.

I like the Dell Inspiron 8000. Sony's are nice looking, but they have lousy video cards. I like the bigger all in one designs over the ultra portables. You end up lugging a CDROM, floppy, zip anyways. Max PC gave a perfect 10 on the Dell I8K. I got the I5K and have nothing but goodthings to say about it. the I4K is similar to the I5k

Just like Yar, i like Dell - I had a Dell Inspiron 7500 which was blazing fast, and was very dependable.
Maybe something you should check out http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Although my Dell Inspiron 7500 was kind of hard to lug around, it was well worth it.

I tripp out on those new Geforce Go cards. You can run dual moniter on them. That's 2 seperate moniters, not the same thing on 2 moniters. Very cool. I'm temped to void my warrentee and do the upgrade myself. I've read on the Dell board about people doing it with some good documenetation.
