I need to buy (from NewEgg, most likely) another SmartMedia flash memory card for my Olympus D370 digital camera. I am puzzled by the pricing. A 128mb card costs anywhere from $28 (including S+H) to $46. At local stores the prices are much higher. All are 3.3v, all state they for digital cameras, MP3 players, etc. I wouldn't be surprised to find that they all have the same chip under the skin.

Why the differences in pricing? Is there a difference in quality or performance?

I already have some smaller SmartMedia cards fron Fuji, Sandisk, Olympus (Actually bought a 16mb card from a local drugstore's clearance cart for 25 cents! Yeah, it's small, but so is a quarter dollar... :D ). Never had a problem with any.

Should I just go by price?

they are all over rated in my opinion

the only thing you might really need to look out for is if it comes with the casing or not, also how long they have been making it

just do background check on the companies behind it

I assume by 'casing' you mean the little plastic cover/holder to store it in, keep it free from dust, etc.

As for background of companies, I'm not sure if that is possible. Many companies probably just put their label on a product manufactured by some other company, the same way CD-R's are marketed.

AG - What a quick response, must be a slow day. Or are you chained to your PC :p

"it's indeed a slow day today, both here in SysOpt, and at work"

AG, you mean to say you do this at work, on company time??? That's terribly unethical and dishonest, and furthermore

Uh-oh, here comes my supervisor, gotta go ....
