Hi Robin,
Are you clear on why it is that you want to "tweak" your BIOS? I'm concerned that it just might be you that will get tweaked.

It is over 2.5 years old. I would only use it IF I had any of those compatible chipsets and OS'.

Robin,
Why not go to your systemboard's website and either flash the BIOS or download the upgrade to diskette? Or possibly yours is an OEM board and you can't determine who made the BIOS.
Long ago, I learned to treat utilities I encountered on the web with more than a little respect. Two full-scale restorations last Summer put an end to most of my curiousity.

John Lowell

what i want is the most bang for my money.
i just put this system together. i want to learn as much as i can about what it can and can not do. i have tried some tweaks to try and speed up my system. it started out running a little slow. i have picked up a little speed. this is my practice machine. i download and try different things i pick up in the forums here. i never took the time to do these things with my other system. (too afraid) now nothing stops me. do or die is my motto. i want to build a amd thunderbird 1 gig next and go dsl with this system. i got computer in my blood now http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
system spec
amd duron 800
asus a7v133
gforce2mx
on board sound
8x dvd
win98se
256 ram
my next thing to try is to overclock my cpu and video card. any help or site i should look at?
want to see how fast i can get my system to go.

hey john. i have question for you.
how do you get those different os on your computer?
i have a copy of win me and facetwin(all in one windows to unix) (haven't a clue to what that is yet) http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif.
not going to try it today(but in the very near future) can't have something and not try it. i'm like a sponge right now, trying to soak up everything i can about my computer.
if you are a dad happy fathers day also for every other dad out in cpu world.

Yes, I have Twkbios loading a few "tweaks" at startup. You have to pay & register it for it to automatically load at startup. It'll crash yer box easily if you experiment a bit.
I've found this site's (http://www.rojakpot.com/) BIOS optimization section to be excellent. But the one thing that made the biggest speed difference in my AMI BIOS settings was using the "best performance" settings in the BIOS menu.

Hi Robin,
I wonder how it was that you could tell that I'm a father. :-) Thanks for the Fathers' Day wish!
I see that you are from Philadelphia, the home of my boyhood and my young adulthood. Its been almost thirty years since I lived in the Philadelphia area but I can still taste the TastyKakes, the Frank's Black Cherry Wishniak, and the hoagies. :-)
Given what you have told us about your enthusiasms regarding computers, I'm going to suggest something to you that you may not have considered before: get A+ certified. The training materials will give you a good, solid grounding in system components and in MS-DOS and Windows. You'll have training recognized by major IT industry companies whether or not you chose computers as a profession and it will channel those passions of yours in such a way as to get you the most out of them.
Regarding your question concerning the multiple operating systems on my computer, that is achieved by partitioning and formating your hard drive or drives appropriately, installing them, of course, and booting with the assistance of a so-called "boot manager". I use System Commander 2000, but there are others as well. My machine shows first the Intel system board BIOS, then the Adaptec SCSI Controller BIOS, then System Commander 2000 with it's menu of OSs. You simply choose the one you want and, voila!
Let me know if I can be of further help.
God bless.
