Is there a readily-available Monitoring program out there that would allow me to see the activity (or lack of....) on my Internet connection?

I'm having problems with intermittent slowdowns of Browsing on a 128K Cable network, using W2K_SP3 & IE. The system will work OK for a number of days, then it just seems to go out to lunch for an afternoon; with luck, it'll come back to normal the next morning.

I'd like to be able to monitor what's going on 'behind the scenes' to give me an idea where to start troubleshooting.

Currently running ZoneAlarmPro & Norton A/V 2K3; have disabled both programs & saw no difference. Have run Norton & came up with a 'clean' system.

The LAN runs thru a switch - a 2nd system on the same network continues to run fine.

I apologize if this subject has been covered in another forum - I did a quick search on this forum & didn't find anything.... but then again it's late & I'm draggin...

Thanks for any help!!:(

check this one out also, is FREE, and it works in the System Tray, live status, without having to eat up a chunk of the screen real state :p

Oh - the program is freeware, but ZDNet wants big bux for dload permissions. If I paid each of these greedy server farms what they wanted, I'd be doubling my freakin' RoadRunner bill. :mad:

The Software is Still free

they are just CHARGING the service to download files

2 different things

they are basically doing the same **** FilePLANET / GameSpy is doing

Here's a rather cool one. May be a bit overkill for your needs though;

http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/mrtg/mrtg.html

We use it at my school to monitor traffic from the WAN connection to each dorm, to see where the P2P bandwidth hogs are.
