Those should give you the background info. I've heard it go both ways on who is more compatible. Both types CAN work on home dvd players, but it really depends on the model. there should be a compatibility list on one of those sites. I forget which, though.

that if I burn a DVD+, it may play one my home DVD and not yours

Same for the DVD-?

The multiformat burner. Do you have to select DVD+ or DVD-?

When you get a burner that can burn the various formats (the burning software will help you pick which format to burn to), burn one of each format and see what plays in your player.

This is one of my BIGGEST reason why not get a DVD burner yet

waiting for the 2 formats to consolidate and become 1

CDRW started the same way, there was 2 kinds of CDRW formats not to mendion PD drives that also was part of the game, but it was even further out

all 3 had the same concept, but none was cross compatible

and now in days, all reads all, all writes all

so just wait and be patient ;)
