Hello,
I have a four machine network in my house, 3 Win 2K and 1 win 98. When I turned on my main machine today (WIN 2K) and attempted to connect to any of the other machines through the network neighboorhood, I get the following message:
WORKGROUP is not available. The network is not present or not started.
My network has been working fine across all machines, File Sharing, TCP/IP and IPX for games everything was fine until this morning.
I checked MS web site and found a registry fix for an Wim ME machine but nothing for WIN 2K. Ping works both in and out of this machine going from this machne and to this machine.
When I click on System Properties the Network ID is greyed out (see attached file) and I have never seen that before.
In the event viewer, I do have this messageS:
The FTP Publishing Service service hung on starting.
The Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) service hung on starting.
The World Wide Web Publishing Service service hung on starting.
The FTP Publishing Service service terminated with the following error:
The authentication service is unknown.
SAM failed to start the TCP/IP or SPX/IPX listening thread
So...anyone have any ideas? I just hope I do not have to re-install... Oh yes..one more thing. I have uninstalled and re-installed the network card and drivers, the FTP service, the WWW pub service but to no avail..
Thanks..
Jim
